Cheshire Umpires and Scorers Association

The Association is represented on the Board via the Clubs Committee

The CU&SA has under its new Chairman, Dave Lawson, has organised a system within the Cheshire Integrated League Structure whereby umpires, as they gain in experience, can move up the structure and umpire at a higher level in the game. By reporting to the ECB the marks obtained by the umpires who officiate at the highest levels of the structure, the CU&SA gives the best umpires an opportunity to be invited by the ECB Officials Association to officiate at even higher levels, for example in the National Knockout Competition, or in the President's trophy, and as we have seen in each of the last two seasons, to join the Minor Counties panel. Cheshire has for the first time in 2008, two umpires on that panel, in Alistair Davies and John Lofthouse, who previously stood in Cheshire County League games. Maybe we will see one, or both, of these two progressing to umpiring in the County Championship over the next few years.

There is however, still a critical shortage of Umpires in Cheshire and as an essential part of the game we cannot afford for them to become an endangered species. Please try and identify any members of your Club, who could be interested in training to become an umpire, be they players retiring from the game, or younger members who may be struggling to make the grade as players.
