Lancs invited Cheshire to bat on a wicket that was a day too early after being underwater at the previous weekend. It all started very well as Louis Bentley (30) and Jonny Kettle (18) (both Oulton Park) opened proceedings with a partnership of 48. Then disaster struck as 5 wickets fell for the addition of only 15 runs. Scoring was difficult in the face of good accurate bowling on a slow wicket. The left arm combination of quick Ahmed Hassan and slow Bharat Tripathi did most of the damage but were well supported by the rest of the Lancs attack. Cheshire's bowlers did hang around and three reached double figures as the innings crawled to 105 before finally expiring.

Lancs replied as the wicket began to play better but were helped by an inconsistent Cheshire attack. Too many 4 balls! Sam Baxter (Grappenhall) an U17 offie was the pick of the bowlers on day 1. He clean bowled two Lancs batsmen in the course of 19 tidy overs on his debut. Lancs were in total command at the end of the day at 194 for 3, Cheshire in some disarray.

The next day Cheshire were revitalised. Jonny Kettle rallied his troops who were buoyed by the arrival of Craig Williamson (Oulton Park). Craig had been playing for Derbyshire 2s in a three day match that had finished a day early. He was able to replace Danny Cramner (Heaton Mersey) who had not been able to play in the Cheshire 12 because of an injury sustained on the eleventh hour.

The Cheshire attack was unrecognisable from that of the previous day. Lancs were made to graft. Chris Tipper (Hyde) and skipper Will Driver pushed their stand on to 117 until an inspired piece of cricket saw the former's unfortunate demise six runs short of a well deserved century. Driver drove a ball from James Hawley (Macclesfield) firmly back to the bowler who fielded it cleanly, turned and noticing Tipper was just out of his ground threw down the non strikers stumps to run him out. This was a key turning point for Cheshire who then turned the screw and took a further four wickets for the addition of less than 30 runs. Lancs then safely negotiated the remaining 30 odd runs to declare on passing the 300.

The Cheshire 2nd innings began explosively with Kettle and Bentley racing to 50 in only 8 overs before the latter fell. Rick Moore (Christleton) then joined his skipper in a delightful 82 run partnership. Rick dominated the stand, scoring exactly 50 before falling lbw. His innings consisted of 5x4, 2x6 and a 5. Kettle then dominated the remainder of the day compiling a superb undefeated 123. He is one of Cheshire's rising stars. This was his second ton for the county in 8 eight days as he scored 100* for the A XI at Mobberley the previous week against a Northumberland Development XI.

The match ended in a draw with Cheshire's pride more than restored on the second day.

Cheshire skipper Rick Moore (Christleton) won the toss and asked Warwickshire to bat. Unfortunately the opening bowlers strayed in line and length too often as the Warwickshire early order climbed into what was on offer. Despite a brilliant run out by Khalid Sawas (Macclesfield) they built a solid platform and were 150 for the loss of only 3 wickets after 30 overs. Only a controlled spell of 10-2-33-1 by Tom Gledhill (Middlewich) held them up. The introduction of Craig Williamson (Oulton Park) however induced a middle order collapse of 5 wickets for 34 runs. The combination of Williamson and Paddy Roberts, who got three stumpings off Craig, were largely responsible. Adam Catlow (Heaton Mersey) and Moore provided decent support until the former badly bruised his hand in trying to take a full bloodied c & b. The Warwickshire late order rallied and a brutal 52 run 9th wicket stand led to a challenging total on what was still a good wicket.

Cheshire's reply followed a similar story to Warwickshire's. Louis Bentley (Oulton Park) dominated the innings. He was ably assisted by Sawas as Cheshire reached 130 for 2 just past the half way mark. We were in the driving seat. Sawas' dismissal led to a disappointing middle order surrender that included Bentley for a wonderful 92. He played shots all round the wicket, from glides and glances to pulls and cuts added to some lovely straight drives. As the Warwickshire bowlers put on the squeeze Cheshire lost SIX wickets for 40 in 12 overs. With Catlow unable to bat it was game over….. or so we thought but Roberts and Williamson had other ideas. They played such entertaining aggressive cricket that a win became a possibility. They clubbed 54 for the 9th wicket before Williamson tried one elaborate shot too many and was bowled. Cheshire finally ran out of overs 18 short. It was a commendable effort.

BRIEF MATCH REPORT
All main batsmen got a start but only Danny Berry converted to a half century. All 10 wickets were caught - 2 by keeper and SIX at first slip - mainly playing one day fishing shots outside off stick. This was disappointing after a promising start that had taken us to 147 for 2. The Lancs reply was similar but main difference was skipper Cockbain who finally fell for 91. If a catch that he offered during his lengthy knock had been taken then who knows??? Cheshire stuck at it exceptionally well in the sticky heat - a good team effort in the field. The wickets were shared between the 7 bowlers used. The part timers did a great job ripping out the middle order but the four main bowlers deserve praise for their unstinting efforts.
Cheshire's second knock was dominated again by Berry who rattled up 42 in 25 balls with 9 fours. His first innings knock was also dominated by boundaries as hit 12 x 4 in his 54.

BRIEF MATCH REPORT
A second wicket stand of 184 in 36 overs by skipper Sadler and Rowland dominated the Cheshire innings. They made the platform and also built on it. A pair of top one day innings, they looked for the singles and scored boundaries to maintain the momentum. They both fell in consecutive balls. However Cheshire unselfishly carried on at 9 an over despite several batsmen suffering severe pad rash.

Staffs reply was also dominated by two batsmen, Wilshaw and Holloway, who put on 124 in 28 overs for the first wicket. Leg spinner Hough was the match winner with the ball for Cheshire as he snared both openers. He then went on to claim a well deserved 5 for as he and Rowland wrapped up the Staffs innings with spells of 3 for 3 in 7 balls and 3 for 1 in 7 balls respectively.

BRIEF MATCH REPORT
Cheshire were given an awesome start as Ben Morrison launched the innings with a flurry of fours. SEVEN in all including a couple of sumptuous cover drives. He departed with the innings only 28 balls old and his team on 41. Good middle order contributions from Danny Berry (32), an important 5th wicket stand of 58 from Nick James (41) and Jim Pilling (34) and some late order hitting from Danny Newhouse took Cheshire to a reasonable total.
Derbyshire's Patel scored freely but the Cheshire attack managed to keep his partners quiet early doors. However a couple of expensive overs took the pressure off and a 114 partnership saw Derbyshire home with 7 overs to spare. Cheshire's bowling was generally tidy but lacked any real penetration.

BRIEF MATCH REPORT
Cheshire raced to 50 for the loss of only one wicket on a hard bouncy track despite a damp slow outfield. Unfortunately the wheels came off after an inexplicable run out. Notts change bowlers, Powell and Ball, caused most of the damage as Cheshire struggled to build any partnerships. Only a battling 18 from Si Dunn saw us to the 100 mark.
Cheshire defended the low total with some credit. We bowled well as a unit. Ben Gough, returning from injury, bowled with some fire and gave us some hope with a couple of deserved wickets. All bowlers bowled niggardly with 15 year old Charlie Reid, Mark Rowland and Danny Newhouse returning excellent figures.

Cheshire, despite spilling several early chances, managed to restrict a strong Derbyshire side containing several players with first and second team experience. U17 Vishnu Bhardwa broke a key stand between Needham and Whitley. Cheshire restricted the run rate by taking wickets at regular intervals. The final total would have been even better without a 15 run final over that spoilt Lee Dixon's fine figures.

Cheshire were always just behind the run rate. Derbyshire's spin twins Needham and Paget put a break on the Cheshire innings that even a quick fire half century from Tom Ducker couldn't break. Tom Blease brave innings helped lay the platform that Nick Reid and Ducker built on with a vital 87 run partnership.

Match Report : Cheshire's two day home match against Lancs was reduced to one thanks to the weather. The first day was dominated by a great skipper's innings of 85 by Simon Stokes. It was ideal for the conditions that was helpful for Lancs' four spinners. He played patiently, with a straight bat, but this was punctuated wuth some wonderfully guided and timed shots. He got staunch support from Tom Blease (34), Tom Ducker (16) and Lee Dixon (30) to take his team to 199. The Lancs bowlers bowled very tightly and gave little away. All seven had at least one success. Quick bowler Tom Young, who has played for the Cheshire minor county side this season took 2 for 34 for his home county, Lancs. Michael Baer took 2 for 36 off 26 miserly overs. Luckily for Cheshire the Lancs fielders found the ball diffult to hang on to as numerous catches went begging.

In the 14 overs remaining in the day Lancs got to 47 for the loss of 2 wickets. Faz Shaikh sent back both Lancs openers including the son of Cheshire's former long serving captain, Ian Cockbain.
