The Association was established
in 1999 with its main aims being:-
· To assist and encourage all its members to achieve and
to maintain a high level of competence in the skills of umpiring.
· To provide training courses for umpires at all levels.
· To promote comradeship and co-operation between all members
and to promote cordial relationships between umpires and players.
· To promote an organisation to provide umpires to officiate
in any matches requested by the CCB, CCCC or any other accredited
organisation in the County.
· To promote and recommend umpires to stand in ECB competitions.
· To provide a meeting point and to co-operate with all
leagues and clubs in Cheshire on matters to do with umpiring and
the laws of the game.
The Association has always represented
all umpires standing in Cheshire. It will continue this policy
in the future regardless of the organisation, if any to which
they are affiliated.
The Association has supported the Cheshire pyramid system and
since 2008 has implemented a system within this structure whereby
umpires can progress from League to League to promote themselves
to a higher level. Co-operation between the Umpires' Associations
of each League is good, with umpires helping out one another across
Leagues.
As well as carrying out other appointments in Cheshire, outside
standard League appointments, the Association is responsible for
providing guidance to ECB competitions where local umpires are
required.
Training facilities provide a pathway for young aspiring umpires
to reach the First Class game and the Association campaigns to
urge young people to put an early step on this ladder if they
wish to reach the highest levels.
For young umpires the sky is the limit and anyone wishing to take
up the challenge should contact either Ian Bishop or Dave Lawson.
